Marlins Win Historic Game in Colorado

Ichiro Suzuki's 3000th hit came during Miami's win over Colorado on Sunday

The Miami Marlins beat the Colorado Rockies 10-7 on Sunday in a game that featured Ichiro Suzuki's 3000th hit.

Suzuki's big hit came during the seventh inning on a triple. It was only the second time a player had reached 3,000 hits with a triple. Suzuki is the 30th player in Major League Baseball history to reach 3,000 hits.

The victory gave the Marlins a much-needed series win. After being swept in Colorado, Miami found itself in a precarious spot in the Wild Card standings. By taking two games in Denver, the Marlins will head home one-game up in the standings for the second Wild Card position.

It was a busy offensive day for the Marlins on Sunday with ten hits. Miami posted two different four-run innings and saw production up and down the lineup. Christian Yelich, Martin Prado and Jeff Mathis all had three-hit games. Yelich doubled twice and now has 31 two-base hits this year. Prado also doubled to give him 25 on the season.

Giancarlo Stanton made his presence known with another long home run. It was the second straight game that Stanton homered in and he now has 24 on the season. The slugger has 65 runs batted in and is hitting .242 this year.

Adam Conley came away with the win, but was not at his best. The lefty gave up six runs in five innings and walked four. Conley has an 8-6 record now to go along with a 3.70 E.R.A.

Fernando Rodney worked the ninth and completed his first save since joining the Marlins. Rodney has 18 saves this year with the other 17 coming as a member of the San Diego Padres.

The Marlins will begin a series on Monday with the San Francisco Giants. Jose Fernandez is scheduled to make the start for the series opener.
