Massage Therapist in Doral Banned From Having Female Clients

What to Know

  • The restriction was imposed on Nov. 13.
  • The masseur is prohibited from massaging female clients.
  • The business in Doral suspended the accused.

Florida officials partly suspended a massage therapist's license over alleged sexual misconduct during a massage at the Ananda Spa in Doral.

The Florida Department of Health issued an emergency restriction order, or ERO, against Angel L. Torres Carballo on Nov. 13, the agency announced on Wednesday.

The ERO prohibits Carballo, an Allapattah resident, from massaging female clients.

Carballo is the only South Florida professional on the Florida DoH's monthly list of license restrictions and suspensions.

The Ananda Spa, described by the ERO as an "unlicensed massage establishment," is located at 3900 NW 79th Ave. in Doral.

The 25-year-old victim of the alleged incident said Carballo inappropriately removed a blanket that was covering her and toucher her breasts with his hands and mouth without her consent.

The alleged victim “immediately pushed Mr. Torres Carballo away, covered herself, and confronted Mr. Torres Carballo about his actions. Mr. Torres Carballo apologized to [her] and begged her not to say anything," the ERO reads.

"[She] wasn’t having it, rejecting that plea and Torres Carballo’s later plea in Spanish to keep quiet, 'Don’t do it for me, do it for the business,'" the Florida DoH said in a statement.

Ananda Spa's operator said the business does have a license, adding that it has not been operating illegally. The business suspended Carballo.

Victims from other South Florida areas such as Boca Raton, Coral Gables and Coral Springs have made similar accusations against massage establishments, such as Massage Envy. BuzzFeed reported in late November there have been more than 180 allegations of sexual assault or misconduct linked to Massage Envy.
