A family is thankful to be alive after their home was engulfed by flames and destroyed in an early morning fire Friday in Fort Lauderdale.

Crews responded to the home, located at 1312 Northwest 15th Terrace, shortly after 7:30 a.m. after calls of flames coming from the location.

"I smelled the smoke and I came around the corner and we saw the fire everywhere,” said neighbor Jeff Lawson.

Firefighters were able to eventually put out the flames, but not before saying the home was a total loss. None of the four people who live in the home were injured.

Investigators have not determined what caused the fire to start.
