Mattress Company Issues Apology After Freebie Not Delivered

When Mayra Soto and her husband were in the market for a new mattress, they came across an offer from Mattress One Mayra says they couldn’t resist.

“Pretty much we were going to buy a mattress [set] and they will give us, as part of the offer, like the covers for it, the pillows and also a TV, a 42-inch TV,” Soto says.

The Broward County woman says she put the delivery on hold until this past January, when renovations at her new condo were finished. She received the other freebies and says she was supposed to get an email with a voucher for her new TV.

"I waited and waited for my voucher and it never showed up," she says.

Soto says she called Mattress One several times.

“There were excuses all the time and nobody answered me back,” she says.

Months passed and she decided to buy a TV for her bedroom. Then she heard about NBC 6 Responds.

"And we were like, you know, why not," Soto says. "At this point it wasn’t an issue of the TV for us or the money. It was an issue of making things right and, you know, principles."

Consumer producer Selena Hernandez contacted Mattress One and within a week, Soto says she received a $400 check in the mail.

"I was like, I can’t believe it," Soto says. "This is awesome."

Mayra is already making plans for the money.

"I already cashed it and I put it towards some vacations in the near future," she says. "Maybe a cruise, just having a little bit of fun and relaxation, which we need a lot."

In an email, a spokesperson for Mattress One told us they issued the check in an effort to resolve the situation. They also apologized for the inconvenience caused to Soto and her husband.
