McGehee Powers Giants Past Marlins

Casey McGehee hit a grand slam to help the Giants beat the Marlins on Friday

Casey McGehee helped the San Francisco Giants beat the Miami Marlins 6-0 with a grand slam on Friday at AT&T Park.

McGehee who enjoyed a fine year with Miami in 2014 had been off to a slow start this season. Prior to the game, the third baseman was presented with the Comeback Player of the Year award for his efforts last year.

The Giants scored early and often with four runs in the second inning before adding a run in the fifth and seventh frames as well. San Francisco tallied 12 hits in a game that Miami looked out-matched in.

Jarred Cosart had a tough day and struggled with his location. Working in deep counts led to the slam by McGehee. It also boosted Cosart's pitch count to 83 in only for innings of work. The right-hander walked three and gave up six hits to go with the four runs. On the season, Cosart now has a 3.67 E.R.A and is 1-3.

The Marlins had three hits total against Tim Lincecum who is enjoying a rebound season. Two of those knocks were courtesy of Marcell Ozuna's bat. Miami's center-fielder has heated up lately and added his eighth double of the year.

With Dee Gordon sidelined for precautionary reasons with a leg ailment, Christian Yelich took over the lead-off spot. This was the first game back for Yelich who had missed time with a back injury. Yelich who went 0-4 and struck out twice is likely going to slip to fifth in the lineup when Gordon returns.

David Phelps will take the ball for Miami on Saturday as it looks to take back the edge in the series.
