Mechanical Fire Aboard Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship Contained: Officials

A Royal Caribbean cruise turned frightening for some passengers Wednesday following a mechanical fire.

Royal Caribbean Corporation confirmed via Twitter that the Freedom of the Seas ship experienced a small fire in a mechanical space Wednesday morning. They say the fire was contained and extinguished, and that all systems were functioning normally.

The company added that all guests had been accounted for, and that there were no reported injuries.

The ship was pulling into Falmouth, Jamaica when the small fire broke out, according to a written statement. For safety reasons, the ship's Captain mustered guests at their assembly stations.

The Freedom of the Seas is currently on a seven-night sailing that left Cape Canaveral, Florida on Sunday and will include stops in Labadee, Haiti; Falmouth, Jamaica; George Town, Grand Cayman and Cozumel, Mexico.
