Employees at the Miami-Dade Detention Center were hospitalized Wednesday after an unknown substance was found, less than a day after several inmates and corrections officers at the center were hospitalized, officials said.

Miami-Dade Corrections officials said the unknown substance was found at the center on Northwest 13th Street and was considered suspicious.

They were transported to a local hospital as a precautionary measure, officials said.

The news comes after City of Miami Fire Rescue officials said they received a call at around 8 p.m. Tuesday about four inmates experiencing symptoms of nausea and vomiting.

Four inmates and three corrections officers were transported to a hospital in stable conditions, fire officials said.

It's unclear what caused Tuesday's medical emergency. A hazardous materials team investigated the area the patients were in and ruled out any chemical and carbon monoxide issues.

"As always, Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department remains committed to the safety and welfare of our employees, the inmates in our custody, and the public we serve," the corrections department said in a statement.
