Mentally Challenged Teen Shot by Cops in Car Confrontation

17-year-old in critical condition after encounter in Palm Beach County

A 17-year-old mentally challenged teenager is in critical condition after he was shot by a Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputy Sunday night.

The unidentified teen's mom had reportedly called police to say her son had left their Royal Palm Beach home and had gone missing in her white Dodge Caravan.

Officers in two different squad cars located the van and attempted to pull the teen over, and when all three cars stopped, the teen allegedly accelerated towards one of the officers.

That's when the other officer opened fire, hitting the teen who kept driving until he crashed into another vehicle.

The 17-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital where he was reportedly in critical condition.
