Miami Beach Honors 110-Year-Old Woman as Oldest Resident

Isabel Castaño celebrated her 110th birthday in the Ponce Plaza Nursing Center on Friday.

A 110-year-old woman has been officially recognized as the oldest resident of Miami Beach.

The Miami Herald reports Isabel Castano celebrated her birthday in the Ponce Plaza Nursing Center in Miami on Friday with family and friends.

She was born on Jan. 11, 1906 in Manizales, Colombia.

During the celebration, the city of Miami Beach presented her with a proclamation, in which she's recognized as the oldest voter in Miami Beach.

In her honor, Mayor Philip Levin proclaimed Jan. 11 as Isabel Castano-Lugo Day.

Castano got married when she was 41 in Colombia and had two children. She immigrated to Venezuela in 1973 and later moved to the U.S., where she has lived in Washington, New Jersey and New York.

She has lived in Miami Beach for 20 years.
