Miami Beach Kicking Off Gay Pride Weekend With Events Thursday

The city of Miami Beach is officially kicking off Gay Pride Week on Thursday – while also launching a program for business and organizations to show their commitment to the safety and equal treatment of LGBTQ residents and visitors.

The “Safe Place” program kicks off Thursday to continue the city’s commitment to the community. Its debut was planned to go inside with the opening day of one of the city’s biggest events each year.

At 8 p.m. tonight, Pride Week will begin when a pulse nightclub survivor will "flip the switch" to illuminate the Promenade in rainbow colors. 30 minutes after -- the Betsy South Beach will host poetry readings in support, including a poem dedicated to the pulse victims.

The weekend will conclude with the massive Gay Pride Parade starting at 12 p.m. Sunday – which NBC 6 and Telemundo 51 are proud sponsors of.
