The meeting will be held Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Officials were expected to meet Tuesday afternoon to discuss hosting the 2012 Miss USA pageant in Miami Beach, The Miami Herald reported.

The meeting will consider the costs and benefits of bringing the pageant to the city.

"We hope it happens," Lacey Abbott, director of ACT Productions, told the newspaper. "I think we're close.

ACT Productions and the Green modeling agency have been negotiating with pageant representatives to move the contest from Las Vegas to Miami Beach, Max Sklar, of the Miami Beach Tourism and Cultural Development Department, told the Herald.

But pageant representatives may be asking the city to pay up to $1 million to host the event, the Herald reported. They originally asked for $3 million.

While a Miss Universe representative said that the talks were only preliminary, members of ACT stressed the importance of the event for Miami Beach tourism.  The last time Miami Beach hosted the pageant was in the 1960s.
