Miami Beach Police Prepared for Memorial Day Weekend Surge

The Miami Beach Police Department is preparing to host tens of thousands of visitors who will ultimately make their way to South Beach's Ocean Drive.

The law enforcement agency said it will be ready for any situation. Last year, the overall number of arrests decreased when compared to previous years but violence still occurred.

Police estimate up to 50,000 visitors will make their way each day to the area during the weekend – meaning the police department will deploy hundreds of officers from Miami Beach and other areas.

Ocean Drive will only be accessible to pedestrians. Motor scooters may also be targeted, as a scooter ban could be imposed.
