Miami Carjacker who Hit Seven People Gets 20 Years in Prison

Authorities say a man who carjacked a SUV at a downtown Miami hotel, hitting seven people and wrecking four cars, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The Miami Herald reports 50-year-old Alberto Ruiz pleaded guilty Wednesday to several felonies, including armed carjacking, for the September 2014 incident at the J.W. Marriott Marquis Hotel.

Police say footage taken from the hotel's surveillance cameras showed Ruiz getting in the SUV, slamming it into reverse, knocking over valets and hotel guests before bashing its way out of the circular ramp. Authorities say in all, four people were hospitalized, one in critical condition.

Authorities say Miami police detectives later found Ruiz at a Miami motel and used a stun gun when he resisted arrest.
