Less than one year after being kicked out of their longtime home in downtown Miami, the Ultra Music Festival could be one step closer to making a return to Bayfront Park.
City commissioners will vote next Thursday on a proposal, sponsored by commissioner Keon Hardemon, that would bring the three day electronic music festival back to the location it spent nearly two decades at.
While hundreds of thousands attended the event each year, issues such as noise and traffic caused several people living in the area around the park to become vocal critics against the event.
Months after the 2018 edition of the festival, the city ended their deal with the promoters in charge of the event – forcing a move to Virginia Key that lasted one year before it was announced in May that it would not be returning to that location.
Since then, cities such as Homestead and Miami Beach – which hosted the first two Ultra festivals in the late 1990s – have expressed interest in hosting the event.
