Miami-Dade Cop Guilty of Escorting Ecstasy Pills

Cop pleads guilty to using patrol car to escort Ecstasy

A former Miami-Dade County police officer has pleaded guilty to drug charges arising from an FBI undercover sting operation involving Ecstasy shipments.

Ex-cop Jorge Delgado faces a maximum of 20 years in prison after pleading guilty Wednesday. Sentencing is set Sept. 30. Delgado, a three-year police veteran, admitted using his marked patrol car to protect what he thought was a shipment of Ecstasy. In return, he was to be paid $2,500. But the so-called shipment was actually an undercover FBI operation.

Miami-Dade Police Director Robert Parker says Delgado's actions erode public confidence and trust in law enforcement. Parker says corrupt police are often identified by criminals who are seeking deals to reduce their own prison sentences.
