Miami DCF Director Retires

Regional director Jacqui Colyer leaving agency

The Miami regional director for the Department of Children and families is retiring, the child welfare agency announced Tuesday..

Jacqui Colyer's departure comes months after the agency was harshly criticized when adoptive parents were charged with murdering their 10-year-old daughter.

Her death sparked several personnel changes at DCF. Colyer was placed on probation and one investigator was fired.

Police found the girl's decomposing body in the back of Jorge Barahona's truck in February. Her brother survived, but was badly burned after his father allegedly doused him with toxic chemicals.

A DCF investigation revealed red flags along the way. A hotline caller said the twins were being bound and locked in a bathroom, but DCF investigators never called police during their 3-day search for them.
