Residents across South Florida are honoring the life and legacy of the late civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. – while officials remind you to celebrate safely.

Here are some of the events taking place during the holiday weekend to honor King’s life.

Broward

The town of Davie will hold their annual celebration Sunday at Town Hall (6591 Orange Drive) starting at 1 p.m. with light refreshments, youth entertainment and activities along with guest speakers and a poetry contest.

Fort Lauderdale will be holding their annual parade and non-violent march starting at 9 a.m. on Monday at Lincoln Park before heading east on Sistrunk Boulevard to Northwest 7th Avenue, south to 2nd Street and ending at Esplanade Park.

Miami-Dade

The city of Miami will be holding their annual parade on Monday starting at 11 a.m. and ending around 4 p.m. Miami Police tweeted a list of road closures that will be in effect due to the parade

The YMCA of South Florida will be holding their MLK Day of Service in the Allapattah area for volunteers to work on numerous projects in the area. For more information, click on this link.
