Miami-Dade Landscape Supervisor Charged With Fuel Theft

A Miami-Dade County landscape supervisor was arrested Wednesday after authorities say he stole gasoline from the county.

Siul Jesus Delgado, 27, was arrested on a charge of organized scheme to defraud less than $20,000, according to the Miami-Dade County State Attorney's Office.

Delgado was being held on $5,000 bond Wednesday, jail records showed. It was unknown if he has an attorney.

An investigation started in April after a confidential source said Delgado was possibly dispensing county gasoline at a private home, authorities said.

Authorities discovered a pattern of suspicious gasoline movements using a county-owned truck containing fuel tanks, which are normally used to fuel landscape equipment.

Surveillance showed Delgado adding county fuel to his private vehicle and leaving five bags of county fertilizer at a home, authorities said.

"Individuals who feel that they are entitled to use and steal county property have no place in our county workforce," State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said in a statement. "A public salary never allows anyone to become a public thief."
