Miami-Dade Offers to Pay Residents to Turn in Stray Cats

Miami-Dade Animal Services is offering to pay residents who bring in outdoor cats for free vaccinations and neutering.

“When a cat comes in to be vaccinated and sterilized, we ear-tip him or her," Miami-Dade Animal Services Director Alex Munoz says. "Now for the first time, we’re ‘tipping’ our trappers for their help.”

'Trappers' will be paid $15 per cat, but they first have to comply with a few rules rules:

  • Animals Services asks that cats be treated humanely, with dignity and respect.
  • Newborn kittens will not be taken.
  • Cats must way at least three pounds.
  • Trappers must be Miami-Dade County residents.

Once treated, trappers have to return cats where they were originally captured.
