With school wrapping up this week, Miami-Dade Police are warning parents there is a curfew law in effect and they will be issuing citations.
Detectives said they see an uptick in crime committed by juveniles during the summer months.
"During the summer, the kids are out so we have unfortunately the burglaries that occur during the night, the vehicle burglaries, a lot of crime that is committed by juveniles and that's what we're trying to deter," Miami-Dade Police Det. Argemis Colome said.
The Board of County Commissioners put up large billboards across the county that read "Yes, there is a teen curfew in effect" in bold letters.
Police are hoping the billboards serve as a reminder to parents and teens.
"Let them know 'hey listen, I don't want to be that phone call at 3 or 4 in the morning,'" said Colome.
If you’re under 17 and without a parent or legal guardian, you can't be out past 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. The curfew is raised to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. It ends every day at 6 a.m.

If caught, police say teens will be taken into custody. They can be fined up to $500 for a third offense.
