A South Florida police officer is facing charges after authorities say she lied about her estranged husband being involved in a scam to sell knock-off shoes.
Miami-Dade police report that 35-year-old Saintamens Edwards turned herself in Wednesday. The Miami Herald reports that she was charged with official misconduct, harassment and unlawful use of a communication device.
Police say Edwards contacted a Miami Beach shoe store where her husband worked in July 2013. She reportedly told the owner that her husband was the subject of a criminal investigation and then sent him copies of incident reports.
The store owner showed the reports to his son, who is an attorney. But when the son contacted Miami-Dade police, they couldn't find a record of the reports.
An internal affairs investigation eventually traced the bogus reports back to Edwards' computer.
