Miami-Dade Police Officer Facing New Charges in Stalking Case

A Miami-Dade Police officer who was arrested after he crashed his patrol car and allegedly lied about it was back in court Wednesday on new charges.

Officer Joshua Zacarias is accused of violating a court order for aggravated stalking.

Prosecutors said after Zacarias sent a woman a string of text messages, a judge ordered for him to stop but within hours he texted her again. The judge set a bond of $25,000.

Back in February on a different case, Zacarias was charged with official misconduct. The arrest report said he banged up his patrol car while driving suspects to the station and lied about it to superiors.

Zacarias was out on a $5,000 bond in that case when the alleged stalking began. His bond was then revoked when the new charges were filed. Zacarias' father was in court, himself a police officer, in support of his son.

Zacarias is back in court tomorrow to see if the judge will reinstate bond on the first case and together with the bond on the second case, he could be free pending his trial.
