A Miami-Dade Police sergeant was hospitalized after a multi-car wreck left his vehicle mangled late Wednesday night.
The crash happened on the Florida's Turnpike near 8th Street. Officials said the sergeant was traveling northbound on the Turnpike when he tried to avoid a vehicle involved in an unrelated crash.
He struck the metal guardrail then a civilian vehicle, officials said.
The officer was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center for cuts to the head. He was alert and stable, officials said.
No other injuries were reported.
