Miami Surgeon Posts Graphic Snapchat Videos From Procedure Room, Grows Business

A Miami plastic surgeon is gaining quite the following on social media for people who are interested in an up-close and personal look into the world of plastic surgery.

Dr. Michael Salzhauer, also known as "Dr. Miami" has his social media assistants post live snap chat videos as he works on patients.

“It’s sort of like, in 10 second snaps, the life of a plastic surgeon here in Miami,” Dr. Salzhauer told NBC 6 South Florida.

The surgeon says sometimes users will ask him questions while he is operating, including medical students.

“This allows people to actually see what the process is like; it demystifies it so it’s a lot easier for them to take the plunge so to speak,” he said.

After gaining over 100,000 followers on Snapchat & Instagram, Dr. Salzhauer decided to hire two full time social media assistants.

"I went crazy; I’m like yes! It’s like a part of my everyday morning routine," Dr. Salzhauer said.
Salzhauer only posts videos of his patients who sign a consent form prior to the procedure. He believes it puts pressure on him to do well because everybody sees the results.

“Occasionally people will say isn’t this a HIPPA violation? And the answer is, of course, we always ask permission; not all my patients sign up to be snapped,” Salzhauer said.

Although some of the videos are graphic, he has created a fan base that continues to watch his procedures every day.

Lilly Alonzo, a patient who found Dr. Salzhauer through social media, decided to receive consultation on breast reduction.

“Once he made a Snapchat I went crazy; I’m like yes! It’s like a part of my everyday morning routine. It’s crazy!,” Alonzo said.

All the videos posted on Snapchat are un-blurred, allowing followers to see everything in real-time.

“You actually get to see everything and I love it,” she added.

Dr. Salzhauer believes his Snapchat videos help him engage with a younger audience on a different level. The doctor also posts photos of his patients' results on his Instagram account.

“We have breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, Brazilian butt lifts. Those are young patients and they respect that as a legitimate way to reach out to them,” Salzhauer said.
