Miami Gardens Names First Female Police Chief in Historic Announcement

The City of Miami Gardens is making history after announcing the hiring of its first female police chief: Delma K. Noel-Pratt.

"We are so excited to welcome Chief Pratt to Miami Gardens," said Mayor Oliver Gilbert.

The historic announcement was made Tuesday on Equal Pay Day – which highlights the pay gap between men and women in the workplace – and only days after Women’s History Month wrapped up.

Chief Noel-Pratt brings 24 years of the law enforcement experience into her new role as Miami Gardens’ top cop.

Noel-Pratt’s career began as a public service aide for the City of Miami Police Department in 1989. She then became a certified officer after joining the Miami-Dade Police Department in 1993.

Noel-Pratt held several positions as she climbed her way up the ranks from Sergeant to Major.

In 2013, Noel-Pratt was appointed to Division Chief and was assigned to the North Operations, where she was responsible for command and control of all functions within the Court Services, Economic Crimes, Narcotics, Homeland Security and Warrants Bureaus.

“The city of Miami Gardens is fortunate to have a leader of her caliber, expertise, and talent in service of the greater Miami Gardens’ community,” said City Manager Cameron Benson.

Chief Noel-Pratt is set to begin her new role on May 1.
