Miami Gardens Gas Station Owner Gunned Down

Man shot and killed while leaving store early Thursday

Police are looking for whoever who shot and killed a gas station owner in Miami Gardens early Thursday.

The shooting happened at the Amerika Gas Station in the 15000 block of Northwest 22nd Avenue just before 1 a.m., Miami Gardens Police said.

Police said the owner, 58-year-old Shahid Mahmood, was leaving the store at the end of his shift when he was shot several times as he sat in his car.

A gas station employee said he called 911 after hearing gunshots and said police were quickly at the scene.

"He was still bleeding at that time, the officer told me to put pressure on the wound," said clerk Amer Ahmed. "In a few minutes the paramedics came and took over...it was shocking but at that moment I only wanted him to live."

Mahmood was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The motive for the shooting is unknown, police said.

Police are still searching for at least one suspect and are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade CrimeStoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
