Miami Gardens Woman Carjacked in Front of Her Home

What to Know

  • The incident took place near 30th Avenue and Northwest 170th Street, where police say the victim was leaving her home and saw a truck.

Police are looking for the man they say carjacked a woman outside of her Miami Gardens home early Tuesday morning.

The incident took place near 30th Avenue and Northwest 170th Street, where police say the victim, identified as Yuletide Travieso, was leaving her home and saw an olive colored truck approach her.

"A male exited the vehicle wearing dark colors and a book bag, used threats and intimidation, took her keys and fled with the vehicle,” Officer Nelly Joseph of the Miami Gardens Police Department said.

Joseph added that the victim tried to work her way through the passenger seat of the gray 2017 Dodge Charger in an attempt to fight off the thief, but gave up after the man started to drive away.

Witnesses say they couldn’t believe what they saw.

“It’s kind of messed up seeing a grown man wrestle a woman like that,” said David Lopez. “I couldn’t believe it was happening around here. It’s usually quiet around here. For that to happen, it was kind of shocking.”

Anyone with information on the vehicle – with the Florida licence plate JIG K75 – or the suspect is asked to call Miami Gardens Police or Miami-Dade CrimeStoppers.
