Miami Man Arrested After Over 30 Dogs and Puppies Rescued From Home

Derrick Williams was arrested on multiple animal cruelty charges, police said

A Miami man is facing multiple animal cruelty charges after police say they rescued more than 30 dogs and puppies found living in "unsanitary conditions" with no access to food or water in his home.

Derrick Williams, 26, was arrested Tuesday on six counts of cruelty to animals, along with one count of animal cruelty with intent to injure or kill and two counts of confining an animal without food, water or exercise, according to an arrest report.

The report said authorities responded to Williams' home on Northwest 78th Street after they received an anonymous call and found two female terrier mix dogs that appeared to be malnourished and underweight.

Several other dogs were being housed with no access to water or food, and were locked in cages with no freedom of movement, the report said. An officer also found a dead puppy that had been wrapped in blankets with flies surrounding it, the report said.

In the backyard were several more dogs with no water or food to consume, the report said.

"A number of the dogs were locked in cages full of feces and urine, as others were forced to lay on the hot cement with no shelter," the report said.

A total of 19 adult dogs and 12 puppies were discovered at the home and removed by animal services investigators, the report said.

Williams appeared in court Wednesday, where he was ordered held on $13,000 bond. Attorney information wasn't available.
