Miami Man Arrested in 2017 Sexual Battery of Pregnant Teen

More than a year after a pregnant teen says she was sexually battered by a man who found her sitting alone at a Miami-Dade bus stop, police say they've made an arrest.

Roberto Castro, 48, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of sexual battery on a minor by an adult in the September 2017 incident, according to an arrest report.

The report said the victim, who was 17 and seven months pregnant at the time, was approached by Castro at a bus stop in the area of Southwest 272nd Street and South Dixie Highway. He requested she get into his car and she initially refused, but when he got out of his car she got in fearing he would harm her, the report said.

Castro drove to a secluded area where he sexually battered the girl in the back seat, the report said. He was later linked to the crime through DNA evidence.

In court Wednesday, Castro's attorney, Jorge Viera, asked for a bond to be set, saying Castro has lived in the country for eight years and has no prior convictions. Records show he was arrested in June for a similar incident that included allegations of rape. Prosecutors dropped those charges but are now planning on re-filing them.

A judge denied Castro bond and gave him a stay-away order for the alleged victim.
