Miami Man Charged With Murder in Woman's 2013 Disappearance

A Miami man is facing a murder charge in the disappearance of a woman who went missing more than a year ago, police said.

John Paul Garcia, 45, is facing a first-degree murder charge in the disappearance of 44-year-old Larissa Macriello, Miami-Dade Police said.

Garcia was being held without bond Friday following his appearance in bond court. During the hearing, Garcia's attorney, Scott Saul, said there was no proof that Macriello had died and no indication of how she may have died.

"What you have is at the most is a speculative theft," Saul said.

According to police, Macriello was reported missing by her brother on June 18, 2013, though she hadn't been seen or heard from by family members since June 3, 2013.

An investigation revealed that after Macriello disappeared, her $40,000 bank account was depleted by Garcia, who was also seen driving her vehicle.

Garcia voluntarily met with homicide detectives Thursday and gave "several conflicting statements that were disproven by evidence discovered throughout the investigation," the report said.
