Miami, Miami Gardens Mayors Heading to Texas Border for Trump Immigration Policy Protest

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez and Miami Gardens Mayor Oliver Gilbert will travel to the Texas border to protest Trump administration's policy on undocumented immigration.

Controversy has surrounded the Trump administration's "zero-tolerance" policy that has separated families in numerous parts of the United States.

The bipartisan U.S. Conference of Mayors will send a delegation of mayors to the Texas border town of Tornillo on Thursday for a 9 a.m. MDT event to call for an immediate reversal in the policy.

The USCM said it unanimously passed a resolution last week that registered the group's "strong opposition to separating children from their families at the border."

The resolution "calls on the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Justice to immediately reverse these destructive policies and allow families apprehended to remain together to the extent possible, to help avoid the heartbreak and irreversible trauma of forced separation."

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and El Paso Mayor Dee Margo are among USCM members attending the event at the Tornillo Port of Entry.
