Miami Plane Nut Gets Probation

Man who yelled racist threat before takeoff pleads guilty, avoids jail

An Ohio man whose racist outburst on a plane about to take off from Miami International Airport got him arrested has pleaded guilty and won't have to go to jail.

Mansour Mohammad Asad plead guilty yesterday to disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, resisting arrest without violence and threatening a public servant after his Jan. 6 rant on a Northwest Airlines plane on its way to Detroit.

"I'm a Palestinian and want to kill all the Jews," Asad said as he stood up before the plane was set for takeoff.

Officers removed Asad from the plane, but apparently with a struggle, as he was tasered by police. He reportedly threatened officers, using racial references and chanting in a foreign language.

"I'm not afraid of you cops, I've gotten in fights with cops in Ohio and broke their arms in three places," Asad said, according to an arrest affidavit. "I've broken skulls too!"

Asad, 43, from Toledo, Ohio, was given three years probation and told to stay away from planes and trains. He has to pay $27,500 in restitution to the airline.

He'll also have to have a psychiatric evaluation, if necessary.
