50 Arrests Made in Miami Crime Crack Down Operation

Miami Police cracked down on crime with a sunup to sundown operation rounding up individuals who were caught breaking the law.

"Operation Clean Up" started at 5 a.m. Thursday and continued into the overnight hours, Miami Police officials said. A gang unit assisted in the roundup, as well as mounted police officers.

The crackdown was established after numerous complaints from residents in Miami's Flagami neighborhood of streets overrun with crime, prostitution, drugs, gangs and burglaries.

Police said the sweep yielded more than 50 arrests for various offenses including misdemeanors, felonies, traffic violations and prostitution.

One man was arrested for allegedly burglarizing seven vehicles in one night, police said.

The operation concluded at roughly 1 a.m. Friday.
