A Miami Police officer and his girlfriend were arrested after an argument between them escalated into a physical confrontation that ended with him putting her in handcuffs and into the back of his police car, officials said.

Kyle Anthony Centeno, 26, was arrested Wednesday on charges of battery and false imprisonment, while 30-year-old Isamar Amarky Tavarez was arrested for battery and resisting an officer without violence, according to arrest reports.

According to the reports, Tavarez said the fight began at Centeno's Homestead home when she caught him watching pornography on his phone.

Centeno said when he left for work, Tavarez followed him in her car before calling him and telling him to pull over, the report said. When he got out of his car, he said she slapped him in the face and said something about destroying his belongings at his home, the report said.

They both went back to his home, where Centeno said Tavarez started hitting him, the report said. That's when he placed her in handcuffs and into the back of his police car then called for assistance, the report said.

Tavarez denied hitting Centeno in the face but admitted to kicking him in the groin but said it happened after she was in handcuffs, the report said. The couple, who has been dating for two and a half years, has "trust issues," Tavarez told officers.

After they were both taken into custody, Tavarez recanted all of her statements and said detectives were lying and that nothing occurred, the report said. She said she didn't want Centeno to lose his job or get into any trouble, the reports said.

Centeno appeared in court Thursday where he was ordered held on $3,000 bond. Tavarez remained behind bars on $3,500 bond Thursday, records showed.

Miami Police officials said Centeno, who has been on the force for about two years and was assigned to patrol in Little Haiti, has been relieved of duty with pay.
