Miami Restaurateur Had Deadly Powder: Report

Josh Woodward had "abortion drug" on his hands: lab test

The Miami restaurateur accused of killing his unborn child in L.A. had traces of a dangerous powder used in abortions on his hands when he was arrested last October, a new report says.

An LAPD lab test confirmed Joshua Woodward, owner of 8 oz. Burger Bar, had the drug Misoprostol on his hands when he was picked up shortly after his girlfriend miscarried, according to the L.A. Times.

Woodward, who also used to own Table 8 in Miami and has several famous eateries in L.A., was arrested in late October on suspicion of murder after his girlfriend told police he had rubbed a white powder on her vagina, possibly causing her to miscarry the couple's child.

According to a search warrant affidavit released last year, Woodward's girlfriend told police that during an intimate night in October, Woodward kept putting his hand in a plastic bag and then putting his hand on her vagina.

She claims she lost the baby a few hours after the incident and noticed a white powder in her underwear the same night.

Police had said the powder might be Misoprostol, a drug used to induce labor and in early term abortions.

Though the results of the lab test haven't been officially released, LAPD officials said they could present their finding to prosecutors soon.

Woodward's lawyers maintained his innocence and said they're suspicious of the lab tests.

"The testing is ongoing, and no results have been released, nor should they be until the test results are final," attorney Mark Werksman told the Times. "We question whether the information is accurate. They are making giant leaps here that are unsubstantiated by the facts, and there is a lot more to this case than just analyzing what the substances are that were found on any person or in any place."

Woodward hasn't been officially charged.
