Miami Shores Police Chief: Man Arrested Was Involved in Multiple Home Invasions

John Beaubrun was caught red-handed by modern technology, Police Chief Kevin Lystad said

Captured and cuffed in Miami Shores, 20-year-old John Beaubrun was walked to a waiting police cruiser bound for nearby El Portal, where he was set to face more police questions Wednesday concerning his ties to home invasions in both cities last month.

Miami Shores Police Chief Kevin Lystad called Beaubrun a person of interest in at least two of three reported robberies. Lystad said Beaubrun was caught red-handed by modern technology.

"He was identified through property that was taken, ATM transactions, credit card transactions, video footage from those locations,” Lystad said.

The chief did not immediately name Beaubrun as one of the thieves, but did say that he is part of the armed robbery ring.

Lystad said Beaubrun is involved in two of at least three reported home invasions, including one in El Portal. In that robbery, armed men in hooded shirts forced a family to cover their faces with pillowcases for three hours as they stole bank information, credit cards and other valuables.

It wasn't immediately known whether Beaubrun has an attorney.

At Wednesday's press conference held by the El Portal and Miami Shores police departments, Beaubrun's arrest was called just the tip of the iceberg.

"From our standpoint, it's only a matter of time, we have identified the subjects, when we build the cases sufficient enough to charge them, we will go out and arrest them," Lystad explained.
