A Miami teen is facing an attempted murder charge after police say he used a concrete block to beat a 73-year-old security guard at an apartment complex before stealing the guard's car.
Travion Collie, 17, was charged Monday with attempted murder with a deadly weapon, armed robbery/carjacking and aggravated battery in the July 16 incident, an arrest report said.
According to the report, the guard was working at the apartment complex at 1000 Northwest 155th Lane when he encountered Collie in the parking lot around 3:30 a.m. The guard asked Collie what he was doing there, and Collie told him his mother lived in the complex, the report said.
The report said Collie then armed himself with a concrete block and threw it at the guard several times, hitting him in the face. The guard fell to the ground and Collie continued to beat him with the block and his fist, the report said.
After beating the guard, Collie got into the guard's car and fled the scene, the report said. The guard was treated at Jackson North Hospital after suffering multiple broken ribs and lacerations to his head and face.
Collie was arrested earlier this month on an unrelated robbery charge. He remained behind bars without bond Tuesday, and attorney information wasn't available.
