Alleged Beer Thief Tries to Break Down Door After Miami Gas Station Clerk Locks Him Inside

A man who allegedly tried to steal beer from a Miami gas station was caught on camera trying to bust down the door of the business after the clerk locked him inside.

Santo Gaiter, 33, of Miami, walked into the Valero gas station on NW 79th Street on Saturday and stole two 12-packs of beer, police said on an arrest form. When Gaiter returned and attempted to steal more, the clerk locked the store doors and called the police.

Video shows Gaiter trying to kick down the door and attempting to pry it open with his hands. He's later seen laughing, being handcuffed and taken away by officers.

Gaiter appeared in bond court Monday, where a public defender asked a judge to put him on the "TAP" program because he's homeless and would not be able to pay the bond. The Alternative Programs would allow him to be released at the hearing, free of charge.

But the judge denied the request and set Gaiter's bail to $500. He remains in jail on a charge of petit theft and is expected to appear in court again on Wednesday.

Gaiter has recent priors of burglaries and other petit thefts.
