Miami and Broward Nonprofits Help the Homeless and Needy Celebrate Christmas

Thousands of homeless and needy people will get Christmas meals thanks to the nonprofits

Miami and Broward county nonprofits are making sure that everyone gets a nice Christmas.

Volunteers at the Miami Rescue Mission and the Broward Outreach Centers in Hollywood and Pompano will be providing entertainment and Christmas meals for thousands of homeless and needy people on Friday.

Starting at 8:30 a.m., The Miami Rescue Mission will provide coffee, fruit and pastries. From 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. a group called the Regeneration Singers, who were formerly homeless themselves, will perform, along with other local groups. More than 2,000 homeless people are expected to attend.

"We are going to be giving away over 6,000 toys. So, this translates to about two or tre toys each kis. So, they're not just going away with a Pez dispenser or something like that," said Casey Angel of the Miami Rescue Mission.

The toys range from dolls, to stuffed animals to action figures.

In Pompano, at 10 a.m. Santa will give away more than 200 gifts to children and adults will get a tote bag filled with hygiene products. A Christmas meal will be served as well.

In Hollywood the Christmas festivities kick off at 2:30 p.m. with giveaways for people who used to be homeless.
