The Miami Dolphins met with free-agent wide receiver Michael Crabtree recently but did not meet his demands, according to a report from the Miami Herald.
Miami offered Crabtree just about $3 million but the WR is seeking a contract worth closer to $4.5 million. The wide gap in price led to Crabtree deciding to check his options elsewhere. Thus far, it does not appear a team has stepped up and beat Miami's offer, but Crabtree is still set to meet with the Oakland Raiders.
Crabtree was a first-round pick in 2009 but his career has been mostly a disappointment. In six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, Crabtree has only played all 16 games three times. Crabtree has 26 touchdowns in his career and has never been selected for the Pro Bowl.
Perhaps the biggest highlight of Crabtree's career came during Super Bowl XLVII when he caught a touchdown pass. The 49ers would go on to lose the game, but it was not due to a lack of production from Crabtree. The 27-year old had five receptions for a total of 109 yards in the big game.
Despite less than stellar regular season numbers, Crabtree overall has done a decent job in the playoffs. In eight postseason games, Crabtree has tallied 516 yards and entered the end zone four times. Miami has its eyes on the playoffs and landing a player with postseason experience would be a plus.
Its not out of the realm of possibilities that Crabtree lowers his demands and lands in Miami. At this time however, it appears the Dolphins are prepared to find help elsewhere.
