Milhouse Brothers Auction Rare Items

They kept their collection on display at their Milhous Museum in Boca Raton for years.

One of the world’s finest collections of antique musical instruments and classic cars is up for auction in South Florida.

Brothers Bob and Paul Milhous spent 50 years traveling the world to find the right mix of rare items. For years, they kept their collection on display at their Milhous Museum in Boca Raton.

The collection boasts about 500 items, many of them from many decades ago, including a full, 42-horse carousel.

"It was built just the way it was at the turn of the century," said Bob Milhous. "It’s hand-carved out of bass wood."

Among the Milhous collection’s highlights is a series of 19th and 20th century era orchestrions, which are machines that mimic the musical sound of a full orchestra from inside beautifully crafted boxes.

The collection also includes a series of rare race cars and a 1932 Marmon 16. The luxurious, aluminum and chrome-trimmed burgundy, convertible sedan was considered extravagant when it first rolled out the factory, and still is today.

As for why the brothers are choosing to say goodbye to their collection, they said it's just time.
