Miramar Church Burglarized Overnight: Police

Parishioner's in Miramar are dealing with a major setback Thursday morning, as their new church building that it still under construction was the target of vandals overnight.

Police say that sometime between midnight at 6 a.m., thieves targeted the soon to be new home of Calvary Fellowship Church, located at 2951 Southwest 186th Avenue off of the Miramar Parkway.

Crooks drilled through a power locked box and stole power tools and electrical wiring for the church lights and outlets, among other items. The three-story structure still under construction has now turned into an active crime scene.

For the last 15 years, Pastor Marc Rodriguez has been holding church services in rented spaces. As his congregation has grown, the new building was to be a permanent home and an answered prayer.

"How could you do it? How could you steal from a church, steal from God?" Pastor Rodriguez tells NBC 6 South Florida.

They had hoped to be in the new building by Mother's Day, but those hopes are now dashed.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
