Most Wanted Fugitive Nabbed in SoFla

Attempted rape suspect arrested after four years on the run

Over four years after he was profiled on "America's Most Wanted," a suspected child rapist on the run from Georgia was captured in South Florida.

Robert Speights, 35, was nabbed by the Broward Sheriff's Office Fugitive Unit Friday at his Dania Beach home, authorities said.

Officers recognized Speights from the "AMW" Website, and tracked him to his home. He was arrested without incident, police said.

Speights' taste of infamy came after he was accused of trying to rape a 13-year-old girl in Bainbridge, Ga. over four years ago.

Police said Speights tricked the girl into an empty house, where he assaulted her and threatened to beat her if she told anyone about the encounter.

Speights was profiled on "AMW" on Feb. 4, 2006.

The warrant for Speights was no longer active, but he still had two warrants in Broward, on drug and traffic-related charges.

Speights is a registered sex offender with an extensive criminal history in Florida and Georgia, according to the BSO.
