Mother Accused of Abducting Son Back in South Florida

New information has been released on the mother accused of abducting her son and taking him across state lines.

Leydibet Hernandez, 29, is now back in South Florida and appeared in bond court Thursday after being accused of abducting her son this past Sunday.

"I'm ordering you to stay away from your child," the judge said during the hearing.

Hernandez's actions triggered a nationwide Amber Alert, since she had previously lost custody of her 21-month-old son, Logan, who was in the custody of his grandmother.

Rebecca Rodriguez, the guardian of Logan, initially told authorities Hernandez snatched the child from his crib. Turns out, she allegedly was involved, along with Hernandez's mother, Lazara Ortiz, and her fiance, Juan Pablo Messa.

Logan and his mother were found in Loredo, Texas this week, after a warrant was issued for her arrest. But authorities said before she decided to turn herself in, she had other plans. Her alleged plan was to vanish to Mexico with her son, police said, thanks to the help of the three others, who are all facing charges.

"We intend on pleading not guilty at her arraignment because we don't believe she committed a crime," said Hernandez's Attorney Michael Mirer.

Mirer wouldn't go into detail, only saying that Hernandez was protecting her son, adding, "In this particular instance, I don't believe she interfered with the custody of anybody and I think that will come out in court."

Hernandez's bond was set at $50,000 after which she'll be placed on house arrest until her trial. Logan is now in the custody of the state.
