It is not known if the gun was loaded.

A mother was taken into custody after police say she took a gun to her children's Miami Gardens school.

The woman, identified as 28-year-old Dalisia Trealla Barnes, told the Department of Children and Families she would go to Myrtle Grove Elementary School and harm herself and her children, according to Miami-Dade Schools Police.

DCF contacted police who responded to the school at 3215 Northwest 176th Street Wednesday.

Police confronted Barnes and she allowed them to search her car, telling them, "there is a gun in the glove box," according to an arrest report. Officers said they found a weapon in the glove compartment.

It is not known if the weapon was loaded or if Barnes has a weapons permit.

Trealla was taken into custody for taking a weapon to a school, according to police.

She was booked into jail and was being held on $5,000 bond late Wednesday, jail records showed. It was unknown if she has an attorney.
