Mother Whose Toddler Was Found in Drug-Filled Miami Motel Room Bonds Out

A woman arrested after authorities say her 2-year-old son was left alone in a Miami motel room surrounded by drugs was released from jail Wednesday, as police continued to search for her boyfriend.

Maidolys Oduardo Paneque, 25, was released on bond but didn't make an appearance in court. She's charged with one count of child neglect and it's unknown if she's hired an attorney.

Police said they're still searching for Paneque's boyfriend, 26-year-old Osniel Machado, who had recently been arrested for grand theft auto and several drug-related charges.

The incident began Tuesday morning when officers began pursuing a stolen motorcycle, which led them to the motel along Southwest 9th Street and 24th Avenue, police said.

Officers couldn't locate the man on the motorcycle, but a woman at the motel led them to a room where the man reportedly lived. Once inside, officers saw a 2-year-old boy sleeping on the bed. The child was within arms reach of crack cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, police said.

Police said they found 42.2 grams of cocaine powder, 10.1 grams of crack cocaine, 12.6 grams of marijuana, 1.9 grams of Xanax and $428.50 in cash in the room.

The Department of Children and Families has taken custody of the child.
