One person is dead and another is left with a severed arm following a violent motorcycle crash in Southwest Miami-Dade Saturday afternoon.
Two motorcycles were racing eastbound on 8th street when they collided with a vehicle, according to Florida Highway Patrol officials. One was pronounced dead on impact, and the other had his arm ripped off.
The victim’s bike came to a screeching halt on the sidewalk, while his body landed more than a hundred feet down the street.
Witnesses say many bystanders rushed to help the surviving motorcyclist, including workers at a nearby McDonald’s who ran out with bags of ice to try to preserve the severed arm.
“He was groaning as loud as he could he wasn’t saying anything,” said one person witnessed the crash. “I don’t think he could even think, he could barely respond.”
The incident happened in front of a McDonald’s at Southwest 122nd Avenue and 8th Street.
Officials said one person died at the scene. Another person was taken to the hospital as a trauma alert. That victim’s condition is unknown at this time.

According to witnesses, both men are in their early- or mid-twenties and were both wearing helmets.
The surviving victim was airlifted to the hospital. Doctors will likely not be able to save the surviving motorcyclist's arm.
