“Mr. Miami” Promises Emotional Marlins Opening Day Show

The 43-minute show will be filled with "emotional moments," Emilio Estefan said.

"Mr. Miami" Emilio Estefan promised a emotional show during the Miami Marlins Opening Day on April 4, when the team hosts the St. Louis Cardinals at their new ballpark.

"We've been thinking about this opening night for a long time," team president David Samson said, during a Wednesday press conference with Estefan. "It's not going to be an opening, it's going to be a show."

Estefan, who is producing the show, said his famous songstress wife Gloria will not be performing because she is booked in Las Vegas.

"Our production, we are going to have a lot of surprises, a lot of elements," Estefan said. "Miami music all the way back up to now."

"He's not Mr. Marlins, he's Mr. Miami," Samson said of Estefan.

Jose Feliciano is slated to sing the national anthem and there will be tributes to bands that have a local connection like the Miami Sound Machine, the Bee Gees and Kasey and the Sunshine Band.

The 43-minute show will be filled with "emotional moments," Estefan said.

"That's what it is, a show, not a normal Opening Day ceremony," Samson said. "Emilio started talking about all the ideas and before you knew it, he had the makings of one of the best Opening Day cermonies in history."
