NBC 6's Willard Shepard Honored By Black Affairs Advisory Board

This Black History Month, Miami-Dade County is honoring NBC 6's Willard Shepard for his work in investigative journalism, community advocacy initiatives and for his service in the United States Air Force Reserve.

The special feature is being presented by the county's Black Affairs Advisory Board and Military Affairs Board. In a newsletter, both organizations thanked Shepard for being an African American military example to Miami-Dade County youths and residents.

"Because it is Black History Month and this year’s theme is African Americans in Times of War, it is only fitting to feature five-time Emmy award-winning journalist, attorney and Gulf War fighter pilot Willard Shepard," the newsletter read. "He has served our community as an investigative reporter for more than 20 years, and until recently as a news anchor for the evening weekend editions of the NBC 6 News."

The newsletter went on to highlight Shepard's legal skills as a member of the Florida Bar and about how he helps families protect their daily finances, home, credit and investments through his journalism.

Shepard was also honored for his expansive military career, which includes his position as a Lt. Colonel in the United States Air Force Reserve and his designation as being the first Air Force pilot to fly the Soviet Mig-29 fighter.
