If you are watching television stations across the country β including NBC 6 β or listening to the radio shortly after 2 PM Wednesday afternoon, donβt be alarmed when you hear that familiar tone normally used during news or traffic emergencies.
The FCC and FEMA are requiring a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System on all television and radio stations at 2:20 PM.
On NBC 6, it will occur during our coverage of the procession for Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez, who was killed along with two others in a boat crash early Sunday morning.
The test will last less than one minute and NBC 6 will resume coverage immediately after the test concludes.
